The County of Haliburton is rich with multi-use trails. Whether you're a hiker, biker, paddler or snowmobiler, there's something for everyone.
Hiking Haliburton

Did you know that Canada's Largest Hiking Festival happens each fall and winter in the Haliburton Highlands? It's free to participate and these guided hikes offer something for everyone.
Haliburton County Rail Trail The Rail Trail is maintained by the Public Works department. It is multi-use as outlined below:
- April 1 – May 1 or when trail conditions permit: the trail is open for all non-motorized activities.
- May 1 – November 30 or when trail conditions permit: the trail is open to all non-motorized activities and ATVs that have obtained a permit as outlined on the Haliburton County ATV Association website.
- December 1 – March 31 or when trail conditions permit: the trail is open only to Snowmobiles that have obtained a permit as outlined on the Haliburton County Snowmobile Association website.

Permits
You will need a special events permit if you are holding an event on the Haliburton County Rail Trail. Please see our Roads and Sign Permits page for more information.
