Safe & Well 2: CSWB Youth Art Exhibition
MEDIA RELEASE
Youth Art Exhibition “Safe & Well 2” Set to Inspire Community Through Art
November 18th - County of Haliburton, ON – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre, Trillium Lakelands District School Board, and the County of Haliburton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Department are thrilled to announce Safe & Well 2, a youth-led art exhibition created by students from Haliburton Highlands Secondary School and J.D. Hodgson Elementary School.
This unique showcase will be unveiled with an opening reception hosted by participating students on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at Rails End Gallery, located at 23 York St in Haliburton. The exhibit will be open to the public until December 20, 2024.
Following the success of last year’s Safe & Well exhibition, displayed at the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School open house and presented in a virtual gallery format on the Rails End website, this year’s in-person event invites community members to experience the creativity and insights of local youth at Haliburton’s public gallery. The exhibition invites residents and visitors to view community safety and well-being through the artistic interpretations of local youth, fostering conversation and connection within the community.
The exhibit’s themes draw from the four identified priority areas of the Haliburton County Community Safety and Well-Being Plan – Housing and Homelessness; Poverty and Employment; Substance Use, Mental Health and Addiction, and Healthcare and System Access – interpreted through the eyes of young artists.
“It is important to invite our local youth to share their thoughts on these themes,” said Liz Danielsen, Warden, County of Haliburton. “Their perspectives inspire and challenge us to continue working together toward a safer, more connected community.”
Safe & Well 2 is free to the public. All are welcome to attend the opening reception hosted by students on November 29th from 4 p.m. until 5:30 pm. Rails End Gallery is open weekly, Wednesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For those who cannot attend in person, a virtual version will also be available at www.railsendgallery.com after the show opens.
