Media Release - Please limit travel to Haliburton County
HALIBURTON COUNTY, ON (Wednesday, April 2, 2025)
For Immediate Release:
The County of Haliburton and Township of Minden Hills would like to advise residents that during ongoing recovery efforts after this weekend’s significant weather event, travel throughout the County should be limited.
Many of our seasonal roads are still unpassable and travel to secondary properties is not encouraged at this time.
Ongoing County-wide power and communication outages are having a significant impact on the delivery of health and emergency services in the community. Unnecessary travel at this time can pose a risk and a strain on emergency services.
The Ontario Provincial Police – Central Region – have advised that non-local visitors postpone trips to the following areas until conditions improve: Orillia, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Haliburton Highlands, City of Kawartha Lakes, Peterborough County, Northumberland County, Muskoka Lakes, Gravenhurst, Ramara, Oro-Medonte.
Please travel by necessity only at this time.
Quotes:
“Our priority remains the health and safety of every individual in our community,” said Mayor Bob Carter, Minden Hills. “Our local resources are currently under extreme pressure, and additional residents on the road could strain our ability to manage the situation effectively. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation at this time.”
“I urge all residents to only travel when absolutely necessary at this time, and ask that plans to travel to the area be delayed until conditions improve,” said Warden Dave Burton, County of Haliburton. “Your cooperation is vital in keeping our community safe.”
“During this critical time, our EMS teams are stretched thin, responding to urgent calls and providing care to those in need,” said Mike Slatter, Paramedic Chief, County of Haliburton. “By limiting travel to only essential trips we can help reduce the strain on our emergency services.”
